A lifelong resident of the north shore, Bret Murray represents a wide array of clients, from individuals to family-owned businesses, on a variety of legal matters. Always keeping his clients’ goals first, Bret is committed to navigating them through the legal landscape in a professional, compassionate manner.


Prior to opening Bret Murray Law, Bret was the Director of Risk Management and Insurance at a local research university. In that role, he not only purchased the insurance policies but also managed the insurance claims process for the university’s workers’ compensation, personal injury, automobile liability, employment liability, property, business interruption, professional liability, cyber liability, fiduciary liability, environmental liability, Title IX, sports accidents and foreign travel programs. Bret also worked for an insurance company as an underwriter and an insurance broker as an industry practice leader.

Bret served for six terms as a member of the Marblehead Board of Selectmen. The Board serves as the town’s chief executive body and has overall responsibility for the general operations of town government. Along with the other members of the Board, Bret settled various employment-related matters, approved and directed outside counsel for all town legal matters, and served on appeals panels when residents wanted to appeal decisions made by certain town boards and commissions.

Bret resides in Marblehead with his wife and three sons.
